Iranian Foreign Minister: Agreement with US Nearly Reached
Moscow (ANTARA) - Iran and the United States are now at the closest stage to reaching an agreement since negotiations began, said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. “The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is now at the closest stage to being agreed upon,” Araghchi said via platform X on Friday (12/6). He urged the media not to speculate on the contents of the agreement while the finalisation process is still underway. “In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be announced to the public in due course,” Araghchi said. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said the terms of the agreement published by Iranian media do not reflect the actual contents of the document agreed upon by both parties. “The terms leaked by Iran to the media are fake news and are completely unrelated to the terms that have been agreed upon in writing,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. US Vice President J.D. Vance also denied claims that frozen Iranian funds would be released simply because Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding. “First, the Iranian side will not receive any cash and no funds will be released just for signing an agreement or attending a meeting,” he said. Previously, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported, citing a draft memorandum of understanding on resolving the conflict. According to the report, Iran will not initiate negotiations regarding its nuclear programme until the US fulfils several conditions. These conditions include releasing half of Iran’s frozen funds worth approximately 12 billion US dollars (around Rp213.4 trillion), suspending oil sanctions, and lifting the naval blockade.
