Iranian Envoy: Upcoming US Talks Will Only Be Held in Pakistan
Islamabad (ANTARA) - Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, on Thursday (16/4), stated that the second round of talks with the US will only be held in Islamabad, describing Pakistan as a “credible and neutral facilitator,” according to local media reports.
Speaking at an event organised by the Regional Studies Institute in Islamabad, Moghadam expressed strong confidence in Islamabad, as reported by Hum News.
“We trust Pakistan, not the United States,” he said, adding that the US is an “unreliable” country.
The upcoming talks will take place in Pakistan “and nowhere else,” Moghadam emphasised.
Previously, the US also indicated that the anticipated talks are likely to be held in Islamabad.
Pakistan hosted the highest-level talks between the US and Iran since 1979 last weekend, which, however, did not produce any conclusions.
Spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Tahir Andrabi, on Thursday (16/4), said that the US and Iran remain willing to engage as the dialogue continues and urged against speculation.
Andrabi stated that Iran’s nuclear programme is among the issues discussed in the ongoing negotiations, which he described as “serious and constructive.”
Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, is currently visiting Iran for talks with Iranian leaders.
Pakistan hosted the negotiations after mediating a 14-day ceasefire between Washington and Tehran on 8 April, the first since the US and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on 28 February.
