Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beijing, China, on Wednesday morning (6/5/2026). He is scheduled to hold talks with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi.

“Seyyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beijing… leading a diplomatic delegation,” reported Iran’s Tasnim and Fars news agencies.

“During this visit, our country’s Foreign Minister will discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments with his Chinese counterpart.”

China is Iran’s main oil customer. The country opposes sanctions imposed by the United States (US) as Washington seeks to cut off Tehran’s revenue.

Araghchi’s visit takes place ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to China on 14-15 May to meet President Xi Jinping. That visit was postponed after the US and Israel attacked Iran.

Meanwhile, citing AFP, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday called on China to press Araghchi to ease Tehran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is a waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes.

“I hope China tells him what he needs to be told, namely that what you are doing in that strait is causing you to be isolated globally,” Rubio told reporters.
