Iranian Embassy Responds to Nuclear Issue, Issues Statement

The Iranian government, through its official embassy in Jakarta, has responded to the issue of its nuclear programme. In a social media post, Iran reaffirmed that its nuclear programme is intended only for peaceful purposes and is conducted in accordance with international law.

The statement was also conveyed through an infographic. “Iran has never pursued nuclear weapons and will never do so,” the post stated.

Iran stated that its nuclear programme is based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Tehran also emphasised that the use of nuclear energy is for peaceful purposes in accordance with rights stipulated under international law.

Iran stated that all its nuclear activities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Iranian government also claimed to have implemented one of the most stringent nuclear inspection regimes in the world and stressed that the programme is not aimed at developing nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, Iran cited a fatwa from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran that prohibits the possession of nuclear weapons. The government also stated that weapons of mass destruction have no place in the country’s defence doctrine.

According to Iran, nuclear technology is used to support the energy, health, and research sectors. Tehran stressed that its entire nuclear programme is conducted transparently, peacefully, and remains within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Despite these assertions, the claims remain under international scrutiny. Iran’s nuclear programme continues to be monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) amid concerns from several Western countries regarding the level of uranium enrichment and Tehran’s compliance with international nuclear commitments.
