The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia has released a statement regarding the new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei. The embassy emphasised that this appointment demonstrates Iran’s system is not reliant on a single individual.

“This selection once again proves that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not depend on one individual, but rather is a system based on the supremacy of law, the voice of the people, and divine values,” stated the Iranian embassy in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The embassy stated that the succession process has proceeded smoothly. It is intended solely to uphold justice and truth.

“Although the nation has lost a great leader, several senior officials, and senior military commanders, the system will continue its course with steadfastness and strength under the new worthy leadership, in an effort to uphold truth and justice in the world,” it said.

Additionally, the embassy noted that the 30th phase of Operation “Faithful Promise 4” (Va’deh Sadegh 4) is currently being conducted under the command of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei against Zionist Israeli territories.

The Iranian embassy also documented casualties from US and Israeli attacks since 28 February. It recorded that over 1,300 innocent children and civilians have been martyred, and 9,669 civilian targets have been destroyed, including 7,943 residential units, 1,617 commercial and service centres, 32 medical and pharmaceutical facilities, 65 schools and educational institutions, 13 Red Crescent Society buildings, and various energy infrastructure facilities.

Previously, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei officially became Supreme Leader of Iran. Mojtaba is the second son of Ali Khamenei.

According to Al Jazeera on Monday, 9 March 2026, the appointment mechanism was implemented following Ali Khamenei’s assassination in a US and Israeli attack on the first day. After proceedings in the Assembly of Experts, Mojtaba, who was regarded as the leading candidate, was selected as Iran’s new Supreme Leader.

Mojtaba Khamenei has never run for public office or participated in general elections, but for several decades has been an extraordinarily influential figure within the inner circle of supreme leadership. He also maintains close relations with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
