Iranian Drone Targets Israel's Iron Dome Technology Development Centre
TEHRAN — The Islamic Republic of Iran’s military announced it has launched an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) attack targeting a strategic weapons manufacturing complex belonging to the Zionist regime in the occupied territory on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
In its 31st statement since the commencement of Operation Promise of True Promise 4, Iran’s Ground Forces confirmed that the attack was retaliation for the deaths of Iranian military personnel and civilians as a result of enemy aggression. The primary target in this operation was the Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Weapons Manufacturing Complex, according to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim.
Iran’s military explained that the Rafael complex is not merely an ordinary weapons factory. The facility serves as a development centre for weapons of mass destruction technologies and air defence systems for the Israeli military, including the renowned Iron Dome system.
The statement further highlighted the role of Rafael’s cyber technology centre, which supplies software for guided weapons systems and hardware based on artificial intelligence (AI). According to Iran, this technology has been used to carry out terrorist attacks against civilian population centres in Iran.
This major escalation was triggered by a military campaign launched by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran beginning 28 February. The aggression commenced with the killing of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians.
Intensive airstrikes from the US and Israel have struck military and civilian locations throughout Iran, resulting in significant casualties and extensive infrastructure damage.
In retaliation, Iran’s Armed Forces have continued to execute staged counter-operations. Using waves of missiles and drones (UAVs), Tehran is targeting strategic positions of the United States and Israel, both in Palestinian occupied territory and at military bases across the Middle East region.
Iran has asserted that any facility contributing to the Zionist war machine—particularly drone development centres and missile systems—are legitimate targets in their effort to preserve national sovereignty.
