Iranian Drone Attack Forces Closure of Kuwait Airport, Several Injured
The Iranian military launched a drone attack against one of the passenger terminals at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday (3/6) morning local time. The attack injured several individuals and forced flight activities at the Kuwaiti airport to be temporarily suspended.
Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atlan, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (3/6/2026), described the drone attack as “Iranian criminal aggression that resulted in significant material damage to buildings and caused injuries.”
Al-Atlan did not specify the exact number of casualties resulting from the Iranian drone attack. However, in a statement via social media, he confirmed that the injured have received medical treatment.
Kuwaiti news agencies reported that civil aviation authorities have suspended air traffic at Kuwait International Airport, diverting incoming flights to several alternative airports. “Terminal One was attacked by Iran, causing casualties and damage,” the Kuwaiti news agency stated, referring specifically to Terminal One at the airport.
Kuwait, a wealthy oil-producing Gulf nation, has been a target of Iranian retaliatory attacks since the United States and Israel struck Tehran in late February. Iran has since launched missile and drone attacks against neighbouring Gulf states that host US military assets. Tehran has accused Kuwait, which hosts several US military bases, of allowing Washington’s forces to launch attacks from its territory.
Reports of the Iranian drone attack on the Kuwaiti airport follow reports from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, stating that Iran fired several ballistic missiles in attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain.
CENTCOM claimed that all of Tehran’s missiles failed to hit their targets. “Two Iranian missiles fired towards Kuwait failed to reach their targets or were destroyed in the air, and three missiles launched towards Bahrain were immediately intercepted by US and Bahraini air defence forces,” CENTCOM stated.
CENTCOM also claimed its forces shot down three one-way combat drones launched by Iran towards civilian sailors traversing regional waters in the Gulf. Furthermore, CENTCOM announced that US forces had launched “defensive strikes” against Iranian military ground control stations on Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf waters.
