Iranian Diplomat: US Pressure on Tehran No Longer Effective

The United States has only one option, namely to return to the negotiating table.

Ashgabat (ANTARA) - Iran’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ali Mojtaba Rouzbahani, said the “maximum pressure” exerted by the United States on Iran, including the economic sanctions imposed on the country, has lost its effectiveness.

Rouzbahani stated that such pressure is no longer capable of forcing Iran to make concessions.

“The failed policy of maximum pressure and unjust economic sanctions can no longer force Iran to make concessions,” the diplomat wrote in an article obtained by RIA Novosti on Thursday.

The US decision in 2018 to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 Iran Nuclear Agreement, along with a series of unfulfilled promises, formed the basis of a deep crisis of trust.

“The root cause of the current crisis and the impasse faced by the United States lies in the historic and unilateral violation of commitments by President Donald Trump, who repeatedly thwarted the negotiation process and breached memoranda of understanding and various other agreements reached with Iran,” Rouzbahani explained.

He also assessed that all instruments of pressure against Iran have been exhausted, whilst Iran has demonstrated its ability to defend its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

According to Rouzbahani, the United States has entered the end of the era of unilateral domination and must accept the new geopolitical reality in the region.

Rouzbahani also argued that the US has fundamentally failed in its efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz.

According to him, Iran’s superiority in defence, missile capability, and geopolitical position have placed the US military in a “deep strategic impasse”, rendering it unable to continue full-scale military operations or withdraw without losing face.

“Ultimately, in order to safely resolve this man-made crisis, the United States has only one option, which is to return to the negotiating table and accept mutually respectful diplomatic dialogue with Iran,” Rouzbahani said.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes were a response to Iran’s alleged interference with commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

In retaliation, Iran launched attacks on US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
