Iranian Delegation Walks Out of Talks with US in Switzerland

The Iranian delegation left the negotiation venue with the United States in Switzerland on Sunday (21/6) in protest against threats made by US President Donald Trump, according to a Tasnim report. Citing a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, the news agency reported that the move was made to protest Trump’s threats to attack Iran again if Tehran fails to persuade pro-Iran groups in Lebanon to stop ‘causing trouble.’ Following the walkout, Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf urged the US to be cautious in its statements. He also affirmed the readiness of Iran’s armed forces to respond to any threats. ‘They (the US) should be careful with their statements. Our armed forces are ready to respond. Whatever they say, we will take action,’ Ghalibaf said via platform X. The technical-level talks between Iran and the US, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, were held behind closed doors in the Burgenstock resort area of the Alps on Sunday. Earlier media reports indicated that the first round of the negotiations had concluded.
