Tehran (ANTARA) - The Iranian delegation will meet Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before the start of talks with the United States in Islamabad, as reported by the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.

The Iranian delegation intends to gauge the United States’ position and its compliance with obligations in today’s meeting. Following that, Iran will decide on negotiations, the news agency added.

The Iranian delegation for talks with the United States is led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf. The delegation also includes Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Secretary of the National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati.

Talks between the US and Iranian delegations are expected to take place in Islamabad, with Pakistan acting as a mediator as it hopes to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

CNN reported that the talks are expected to be held directly and through intermediaries.

US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Iran on a two-week ceasefire last Tuesday (7/4). Foreign Minister Araghchi has also announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for about 20 percent of the world’s supply of oil, petroleum products, and LNG.
