Islamabad (ANTARA) - A high-level Iranian delegation will arrive in Islamabad to hold talks with the US despite doubts over Israel’s repeated violations of the new ceasefire, said Iran’s Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam in Islamabad on Thursday.

Islamabad will host talks between delegations from the US and Iran after a two-week ceasefire was agreed on Tuesday night (7/4), ending a tense deadlock.

“Despite doubts from Iranian public opinion due to the repeated violations of the ceasefire by the Israeli regime to sabotage diplomatic initiatives, at the invitation of the Honourable PM Shehbaz Sharif, the Iranian delegation will arrive tonight in Islamabad for serious talks based on the 10 points proposed by Iran,” Moghadam said in his post on X.

The US will be represented by Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The format of the talks is still unknown.

This development comes as Pakistani authorities step up security measures in the capital ahead of the high-level meeting, closing main roads leading to the diplomatic area and major government installations, including the Prime Minister’s Office, the Presidential Palace, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to an official statement, the talks in Islamabad are scheduled for Friday, with preparations underway for the diplomatic meeting expected to be closely monitored by both sides.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met with the US Ambassador to Islamabad, Natalie Baker, where they discussed the latest situation in the Middle East and welcomed the ceasefire, with Baker praising Pakistan’s strong diplomatic role.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the high-level talks in Islamabad, with Naqvi stating that Vance, Witkoff, and Kushner will be their special guests, while comprehensive security plans have been prepared for all foreign delegations.

Separately, in a telephone call, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan discussed the latest situation in the region.

“Both expressed deep concern over the ceasefire violations in Lebanon and emphasised the need for full respect and implementation of the ceasefire to ensure lasting peace and stability,” the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Dar also praised Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to achieve lasting peace, and both sides agreed to maintain close contact.
