Iranian Children Killed in US-Israeli Attack on Lamerd
An attack by the United States and Israel has targeted Lamerd City in Iran, resulting in 18 Iranian fatalities.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA on Sunday, 1 March 2026, Lamerd’s Governor, Ali Alizadeh, reported that the strikes hit a sports complex, a community centre located near a school, and two additional residential areas on Saturday, 28 February, in the afternoon. Alizadeh indicated that the death toll is expected to rise.
Fatemeh Amini, the highest-ranking health official in Lamerd, stated that 18 people, predominantly children, died on Saturday evening. Approximately 100 people were injured. She added that health staff throughout the city are on full alert.
Israel and the United States have launched missile attacks against Iran beginning the previous day, targeting multiple locations across the country. In response, Iran fired missiles at Israel and also directed strikes towards Arab nations hosting US military forces, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
Most recently, US President Donald Trump announced the death of Khamenei. He described him as one of history’s most evil individuals. “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” Trump stated on his Truth Social media network, according to AFP on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
