Iranian Attacks Strike Energy Infrastructure in Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE
Iran has launched attacks on several energy facilities and infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Several civilian facilities have also reportedly sustained damage.
UAE
Authorities in Abu Dhabi stated they are working to extinguish a fire at a petrochemical plant in the Ruwais Industrial City on the UAE’s north-western coast.
“Authorities are responding to several fires at the Borouge petrochemical plant, caused by falling debris following the successful interception by the air defence system,” said the Gulf emirate’s media office, as reported by AFP on Sunday (5/4/2026).
There were no fatalities in the incident. Damage to several facilities is currently under investigation.
“Operations at the facility have been immediately suspended while damage is being assessed. There are no reports of injuries,” it added, after the UAE Ministry of Defence had previously stated it was responding to missile and drone attacks.
Kuwait
Meanwhile, the Iranian military had previously stated that it targeted the “aluminium industry” in the UAE and US military infrastructure in Kuwait, according to a report from the official IRNA news agency on Saturday.
Earlier, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water said two power generation and water desalination plants in Kuwait were damaged by Iranian drone attacks, causing “significant material damage and the shutdown of two power generation units”.
Tehran’s escalating threats have also extended to desalination plants, which are heavily relied upon by the desert Gulf states for their water supplies.
Bahrain
Iran also launched drone attacks that triggered a fire in a storage tank belonging to a Bahraini energy company. The fire has now been extinguished.
“Bapco Energies confirms the incident that occurred at one of its storage facilities today, resulting in a tank fire, as a result of hostile Iranian drone attacks,” the company said, without specifying the fire’s location.
“The fire has been fully extinguished, and the situation is under control. Damage is currently being assessed and evaluated. There are no reports of injuries,” it added.
Iran has repeatedly threatened civilian infrastructure in Gulf countries because US-Israeli attacks on Iran have also struck targets vital to the Islamic republic’s economy.
On Saturday, attacks on a petrochemical centre in south-western Iran killed five people, according to the deputy governor of Khuzestan province.
