JAKARTA – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has revealed that scientists, academics, lecturers, and infrastructure related to science and technology have become targets of attacks by the United States (US) and Zionist Israel. According to him, the US and Zionist Israel fear Iran’s progress in science and technology.

Boroujerdi stated that Iran’s advancements in science and technology might be the main reason for the US and Zionist Israel’s attacks.

“The US and Zionists attack academic centres in Iran, attack various universities, and this occurred during the 12-day war and the current war against our country,” said Boroujerdi during a visit to Republika’s office on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Boroujerdi revealed that Iranian scientists, academics, and lecturers have become targets of attacks by the US and Zionist Israel. Infrastructure related to campuses and various research sectors has also become a target of attacks by the US and Zionist Israel.

Boroujerdi conveyed that Iran has indeed achieved progress in various fields of science, including space, nanotechnology, biotechnology, health, medicine, nuclear science, agriculture, and others. These sciences are directly related to advanced technology; even advanced technologies like nuclear ones have been utilised for agriculture and health sectors.

He emphasised that if Iran did not face pressures and threats from enemies, there would be no reason for Iran to divert scientific and technological progress to military and defence fields.

“Many military sectors’ technologies that we possess can be utilised in non-military sectors, such as various types of satellites and drones that we have, which are used in agriculture,” he said.

Regarding the direction of science and technology development, Boroujerdi affirmed that it depends on pressures from enemies. If enemies do not pressure, Iran would not utilise technological advancements in the military field. In the AI sector, for example, Iran has conducted very good research.

“We can conclude that when enemies attack us, they do not target Iran’s military sector, but rather what they aim for is the science and technology in our country; they target civilians such as by attacking mosques, schools, and so on,” said Boroujerdi.

According to Boroujerdi, what the US and Zionist Israel fear is Iran becoming an advanced country. An Islamic Iran that has been under pressure (embargo) for 46 years but still achieves progress. Thus, in their attacks, the US and Zionists target Iran’s scientific infrastructure because they worry that Iran’s progress will become even more advanced.
