Iranian Ambassador Plans to Form Anti-War Alliance
Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, stated that several parties are urging him to call for an anti-war campaign amid the conflict between Iran and the United States-Israel. He plans to create an association or alliance to oppose war against Iran.
“If approved (by the Iranian Government), an alliance or association could also be formed, the essence of which is to oppose war against Iran or other countries,” he said during a meeting with Din Syamsuddin and several Islamic figures at Din Syamsuddin’s residence in South Jakarta on Friday, 3 April 2026.
Boroujerdi said the war between Iran and the United States-Israel has caused significant losses worldwide, including in Indonesia. According to him, those losses were caused by the United States-Israel. “The ones who started the war are America and Israel,” he said. “They are the ones who must be held accountable,” he continued.
He reminded the public to wisely distinguish between victims and perpetrators. “Do not let them be confused, with perpetrators becoming victims and victims becoming perpetrators,” he said.
Regarding the call for an anti-war campaign, Boroujerdi said the appeal had already been conveyed during his visits to various national figures in Indonesia, such as former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, amid the ongoing conflict.
According to him, those visits to national figures were also a response to the condolences expressed to Iran. He felt it necessary to reciprocate with thanks while conveying the latest developments in his country.
In that meeting, Boroujerdi also outlined the latest conditions in Iran and hoped to receive support and prayers from Muslims in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Jusuf Kalla previously received a visit from Boroujerdi at his private residence in South Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Kalla was accompanied by former Minister of Law and Human Rights, Hamid Awaluddin, in that meeting. The discussion covered the latest developments in Iran and the potential role of Indonesia in promoting conflict resolution.
Additionally, Boroujerdi met with Joko Widodo in Solo, Central Java, on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. That meeting discussed regional developments, including the impacts of the conflict involving Iran.
