Iranian Ambassador Meets Kaesang for One Hour at PSI DPP, This is What Was Discussed
Chairman of the PSI, Kaesang Pangarep, received a visit from the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at the PSI DPP office in Central Jakarta. In the closed meeting that lasted nearly one hour, Kaesang lobbied the Iranian Ambassador to allow Indonesian-owned tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
“We conveyed our aspirations so that Indonesia’s tankers carrying Pertamina’s oil can pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” said Kaesang to reporters at the PSI DPP office in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).
Kaesang revealed that the Iranian side welcomed the aspirations. According to him, the current obstacles are only technical and administrative in nature.
“We also conveyed that it can be done soon, because it’s just a matter of handling a few technical issues that will be resolved shortly. The response was very good; they said that, inshallah, Indonesia and Iran have no issues at all. So it’s just a paperwork matter,” explained Kaesang.
Kaesang added that the smooth flow of oil logistics through the Strait of Hormuz is very important. He assessed that the conflicts occurring in the region are starting to impact the rise in global energy prices.
However, regarding the Indonesian government’s future steps, Kaesang refrained from preempting. He left the technical details and inter-country policies to the competent government authorities.
In addition, Kaesang also conveyed congratulations to the Iranian people on the election of Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. He also expressed moral support for the Iranian citizens in facing the current difficult situation.
“We conveyed congratulations to the Iranian people for having a new Supreme Leader, and we also urged the Iranian people to stay strong in facing the things happening these days,” Kaesang concluded.
