Jakarta — Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi has called on the D-8 organisation to firmly and unequivocally condemn the attacks conducted by the United States and Israel on 28 February.

Boroujerdi made this statement during a press conference at the Iranian Embassy residence in Jakarta on Monday, when asked what concrete support Iran expects from D-8 member states to achieve de-escalation in the Middle East region.

“Regarding D-8, we want this important organisation to strongly and firmly condemn the attacks that have been carried out by the United States and Israel against our country,” said Ambassador Boroujerdi.

He continued that issuing a strong condemnation of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran represents the first step that D-8 member states can take. “A harsh and serious condemnation is the first step. After the condemnation is issued, we can then take the next steps,” said the Iranian ambassador.

The Iranian ambassador also expressed hope that the D-8 organisation will stand on the right side of history and issue a serious statement condemning the attacks on Iran.

On Saturday, 28 February, Israel launched an attack on Iran, which was the second assault conducted by Israel and the United States following an earlier strike in June 2025. US President Donald Trump stated that American forces launched a major military operation in Iran to protect its citizens by eliminating what he described as threats from Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons development.

The D-8 is an economic cooperation organisation of developing countries comprising Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, which joined in December 2024.

As the culmination of its presidency, Indonesia will host the 12th D-8 Summit in Jakarta in April 2026, preceded by high-level official meetings and foreign minister level meetings. The D-8 summit carries the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equity, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity”.
