Iranian Ambassador Explains Visits to JK and Jokowi: Anti-War Campaign
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has revealed the reasons behind his visits to Indonesian national figures amid the still-heating conflict in the Middle East region.
“We want from them (Indonesia) to join the anti-war campaign against Iran, which can help us so that we can become a unified voice to counter these attacks,” Boroujerdi said during a meeting with former General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin, in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta, on Friday (3/4/2026).
“Prayers from the ulama for the independence of my nation, which is oppressed by two nuclear powers. Our hope is for prayers and calls for unity among the Muslim ummah in facing our common enemy,” he stated.
During his meetings with Indonesian national figures, he said he received many expressions of condolences and concern.
“As the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran representing Iran, it is only fitting for me to respond by conveying our thanks,” he said.
Therefore, in every meeting with Indonesian national figures, Boroujerdi also discussed the current situation in Iran as well as allegations of war crimes committed by the United States-Israel.
“In addition, it is also a kind of report on the incidents, on the latest events that occurred in the region or in my country, to the figures who previously expressed their condolences to us,” he said.
Boroujerdi also met JK for the second time on Wednesday (18/3/2026), this time at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) headquarters.
Not only JK, the second figure met by Boroujerdi was Indonesia’s 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Megawati’s residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on 10 March 2026.
Boroujerdi’s second meeting with Megawati was held on Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, which coincided with 21 March 2026, at the Central Executive Board (DPP) office of PDI-Perjuangan.
A week later, Boroujerdi travelled to Solo. The figure he visited this time was Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo.
Today, Friday (3/4/2026), Boroujerdi and Din Syamsuddin met in South Jakarta.
