Iranian Ambassador Discusses Sunni, Shia, and the Key to Muslim Victory over Zionist Israel
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, during a visit and exclusive interview at Republika’s office late last month, revealed that divisions within the Muslim ummah and sectarian compartmentalisation are the work of Zionist Israel to prevent Muslims from uniting. If the Muslim ummah unites against the same enemy, it would be impossible for Muslims to lose.
“Our Allah is the same, our Quran is the same, our Prophet Muhammad is the same, our qibla is the same, and the enemy we face is the same enemy,” said Boroujerdi at Republika’s office on Thursday (30/4/2026).
Boroujerdi explained that, in accordance with Islamic teachings, all are commanded to hold fast to the rope of Allah and not to be divided. Unity is the key; thus, it would be impossible for the Muslim ummah to face defeat if united.
According to him, Zionist Israel, as a common enemy, is aware that Muslim unity poses a threat that could defeat it. Therefore, what Zionists do is to create separations and compartmentalise Islamic sects, even disseminating differences and conflicts among Islamic heritages such as the various schools of thought.
Boroujerdi added that when Zionist Israel attacks Palestine, they claim to be targeting only Hamas. When attacking Lebanon, they say they are targeting only Hezbollah. When attacking Yemen, Zionists claim to be targeting only the Houthis. When attacking Iran, Israel says it is targeting only the Iranian government.
“The Zionist Israeli regime, when firing missiles, certainly does not select whether they are Shia or Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Sunni); whether this is a Shia mosque or an Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah one—even non-Muslims become victims in this war,” stated Boroujerdi.
Boroujerdi emphasised that churches and Jewish religious ritual sites in Iran are also targeted for attacks by Zionist Israel. Zionists target everything for attack.
Zionist Israel attacks Sunnis in Gaza. Zionists also attack Shias in Lebanon and both Shias and Sunnis in Iran. “This shows that our enemy is the same, the one we are facing is the same,” said Boroujerdi emphatically.
Boroujerdi conveyed that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when fighting to defend Islam, did not selectively invite companions or the Ahl al-Bayt. All were invited to fight the same enemy.
“Now the war we face is a collective war, not just a war against our country, and on the Day of Judgement, we will surely be asked: when the Zionist war against Iran occurred, which side did you stand on? We must be able to answer this,” said Boroujerdi.
