Iran has officially shut the door on dialogue and rejected all mediation offers to ease tensions in the Middle East. Tehran’s hardline stance stems from a diplomatic record in which three negotiation attempts have ended in betrayal and breach of commitments by the United States (US). The firm statement was delivered by Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, when he met at his residence in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He disclosed the reasons behind Tehran’s loss of trust in the negotiating table. According to Boroujerdi, the first failure occurred with the 2015 nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in which the US unilaterally withdrew. The second round of negotiations, spanning five rounds, also collapsed after the US launched attacks on Iran in June 2025 amid talks. The third attempt, conducted indirectly through mediation by Oman in Geneva, Switzerland, also stalled without an agreement before the US–Iran military operation broke out. Reflecting on these events, Tehran says it will no longer give diplomatic channels a chance. ‘For this time, we will not accept any form of negotiation and we will pursue this war until Iran’s victory,’ Boroujerdi said. This stance also responds to the Indonesian government’s willingness, under President Prabowo Subianto, to mediate for peace. Boroujerdi stressed that this rejection applies to all parties and any country offering mediation. ‘Regarding the Indonesian government’s proposal, we will not negotiate in any form with the enemy, because we no longer trust the negotiation process,’ he concluded. In addition to Indonesia, President Vladimir Putin of Russia had previously offered to mediate. According to the Kremlin, Putin made the offer while speaking with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to follow up on complaints related to the attacks that occurred. Iran designated a temporary governing body of three members following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, the US is preparing a 100-day military operation against Tehran. Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, emphasised Tehran’s rejection of all forms of negotiation with the United States. This move comes as Washington pursues a campaign with Israel against Iran. The United States is considering a military operation of up to 100 days against Iran. The Pentagon has added intelligence personnel amid the widening escalation of the conflict. Boroujerdi also stated that Iran has safeguarded the security of the Strait of Hormuz for centuries.
