Iran Will Not Submit to Trump's Threats of Strait of Hormuz Blockade!
Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has asserted that his country will not bow to threats after US President Donald Trump ordered a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Ghalibaf led an Iranian delegation in peace negotiations with the US in Pakistan, which ended in failure.
“If they fight, we will fight, and if they present logical arguments, we will counter with logic. We will not submit to any threats; let them test our resolve once more so that we can give them a greater lesson,” Ghalibaf told reporters upon returning to Tehran from Islamabad, as reported by Al Arabiya on Monday (13/4/2026).
Iran’s navy chief, Shahram Irani, described Trump’s threat to blockade the Strait of Hormuz as “ridiculous” after marathon negotiations between Tehran and Washington in Islamabad failed to produce an agreement to end the war.
“The brave soldiers of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy are monitoring and surveilling all aggressive US military movements in the area. The US President’s threat to blockade Iran at sea… is utterly ridiculous and laughable,” Irani stated, as quoted by Tehran state television.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) separately stated that any military vessel attempting to approach the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of the two-week ceasefire with the US and would be dealt with “harshly and firmly”.
The IRGC emphasised that the Strait of Hormuz is under the control and “intelligent management” of the Iranian Navy. It was asserted that the strategic waterway “remains open for safe passage of non-military vessels in accordance with specific regulations”.
Trump ordered the US Navy to block the vital shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz, angered by Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear ambitions after the peace talks in Pakistan failed without agreement.
In a lengthy statement on his social media, Trump said the ultimate US goal is to clear the Strait of Hormuz of sea mines and reopen it for all shipping, with Iran not to be allowed to benefit from its control over the strategic waterway.
“Effective immediately, the World’s Best US Navy will commence the process of BLOCKADING all vessels attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. Any Iranian who shoots at us, or peaceful ships, will be ANNIHILATED!” Trump declared emphatically.
Iran itself has restricted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the main route for global oil and gas shipments, but allows passage for certain vessels deemed related to friendly countries, such as China. There are unconfirmed reports that Tehran plans to impose toll fees in the Strait of Hormuz.
