Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Iran’s embassy in Jakarta has stated that it welcomes Indonesia’s offer to mediate the conflict between the United States and Iran. This follows attacks by the US and Israel against Iran since Saturday.

Previously, the Foreign Ministry stated that President Prabowo Subianto is willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation, should both parties agree. Indonesia itself is seeking to play a role in global peace by joining the Board of Peace (BoP).

In a press release on Sunday (1 March 2026), Iran’s embassy stated that it welcomed “the readiness of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to mediate this conflict”. The embassy also “emphasised the importance of a firm stance by Indonesian officials in condemning the aggression and crimes of the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel”.

It should be noted that attacks by the US and Israel have killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran’s state television confirmed his death hours after US President Donald Trump stated that he had been killed.

The US and Israel launched waves of air strikes against targets in Iran, which prompted retaliation from the Islamic Republic. Trump stated that Washington would strike Iran with “force unlike anything ever seen before” should Iran retaliate against US and Israeli attacks.

Meanwhile, conditions in the Middle East remain tense. Iran’s retaliatory strikes are not only directed at Israel but also at all US military bases in Arab states, including those in Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.
