Tehran (ANTARA) - Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Ali Abdollahi on Wednesday (19/8) warned countries in the West Asia region not to assist the “aggressive” United States military.

Abdollahi made the statement in a social media post while emphasising that Iran monitors every movement in the region.

“We warn that providing any assistance or facilities to the aggressive US Army constitutes involvement with US military forces,” Abdollahi said.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly stressed that they are not hostile towards countries in the region, while stating that any location in West Asia that becomes a source of attacks against Iran will be a legitimate target for the country’s armed forces.

On 28 February, Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s supreme leader at the time, Ali Khamenei, as well as a number of military commanders and civilians. Iran retaliated with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel as well as US bases and assets in the Middle East region.

A ceasefire was reached between the warring parties on 8 April. On 18 June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
