Iran Warns US: No Deal If Threats Continue

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that negotiations for a final agreement with the United States will not commence if threats continue. The warning follows remarks by US President Donald Trump, who threatened to “complete the task” if a deal with Tehran fails.

In a statement on social media platform X on Tuesday, Araghchi reminded Washington of the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by both countries, specifically citing Article 13. “Article 13 of the MoU is clear: Negotiations on a final deal will not begin if threats continue,” Araghchi stated. “Respect your signature,” he added, addressing President Trump directly.

The MoU between Iran and the US, known as the Islamabad MoU, was signed electronically by President Masoud Pezeshkian and President Trump in mid-June. The 14-point agreement initiated a 60-day diplomatic period, featuring indirect negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, aimed at achieving a lasting peace settlement.

Araghchi’s warning came hours after Trump cautioned that the US was prepared to use military force should diplomacy fail. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Trump reiterated that Tehran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. “We will make a deal, or we will get the job done. Okay, and it won’t be hard to get the job done,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s population of 91 million. He added that the US possessed the capability to strike Iranian infrastructure if necessary, claiming, “We can destroy their bridges in an hour, we can cripple their energy supply.”
