Iran Warns US and Israel: Any Attack on Infrastructure Will Be Met with Retaliation

The United States and Iran have once again seen tensions flare after exchanging attacks this week. The Iranian government has warned the US and its closest ally, Israel, that it will deliver a proportionate response if either country attacks Iranian infrastructure.

As reported by AFP, the head of the supreme security body, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, said Iran would respond to any attack on its infrastructure, including by striking Israel. The statement was made amid a renewed escalation of hostilities between Tehran and Washington this week.

“Any attack on infrastructure will be answered, and the criminal Zionist regime responsible for these atrocities will not be safe from the response of our fighters,” Zolghadr said in a statement broadcast on state television on Friday (10 July 2026).

Fighting intensified again this week between the US and Iran in the most significant exchange of fire since both parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 17 June, which aimed to formalise the April ceasefire and guide negotiations towards a complete end to the war.

The US military launched heavy strikes overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, saying it had targeted 90 military sites.

However, the Islamic Republic of Iran accused Washington of also targeting civilian infrastructure to divert attention from the funeral of the late supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

According to Iran, bridges and railway lines between the capital Tehran and Khamenei’s birthplace of Mashhad — where he was buried on Thursday — were hit in the attacks.

Iranian authorities said 17 people were killed in the US strikes.

The office of Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli prime minister spoke on Thursday with the US president, who briefed him on America’s latest moves in the Gulf.

Then, on Thursday night (9 July), Iranian state media reported US-Israeli attacks on a military base near Bushehr, the location of Iran’s only civilian nuclear power plant.

Earlier, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israel was prepared to continue its military campaign against Iran if necessary, vowing to do so “with even greater force”.
