Iran Warns US Against Violating Agreement or Facing Harsh Response
The Iranian government has issued a stark warning to the United States as a new phase of the peace agreement between the two nations commences. Tehran has affirmed its readiness to deliver a crushing response should Washington be proven to have violated the newly agreed points or attempt to impose additional demands during the ongoing negotiation process.
Iran and the United States are currently entering a crucial 60-day negotiation period. This phase is intended to transform the signed framework agreement into a comprehensive treaty. The agenda reportedly covers sensitive issues, ranging from the lifting of economic sanctions, the continuation of Iran’s nuclear programme, and ballistic missile capabilities, to security stability in the Middle East region.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, asserted that his country’s position remains steadfastly aligned with the directives of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. He cautioned that any betrayal of the agreement would be met with decisive action. “We are carrying out the task given by the Supreme Leader to ensure all terms and clauses of the agreement are realised. If there is bad faith, a breach of the agreement, or excessive demands from the opposing side, we will not hesitate to deliver a devastating response to the enemy,” Ghalibaf stated via a post on platform X on Friday (19/6/2026).
Ghalibaf also issued a historical warning by referencing past confrontations. “They have received a slap during the war. If they wish to repeat that path, they will receive a much harder slap,” he added.
Previously, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei had also provided clear guidance. He stressed that Iran’s willingness to engage in direct negotiations with the United States should not be misinterpreted as an acceptance of Washington’s position or hegemony. Khamenei reminded that Iran would not surrender or make additional concessions if the United States attempted to push excessive demands during the 60-day negotiation process.
The framework agreement reached this week does open opportunities for normalisation and stability in the region. However, its success is highly dependent on the realisation of the lifting of economic sanctions that have strangled Iran’s international transactions, as well as security guarantees for Tehran’s strategic programmes.
