Tehran (ANTARA) - Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Esmaeil Baqaei, has warned the United States against issuing statements and interpretations that contradict the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ending the war. In a post on social media platform X on Wednesday evening (24/6), Baqaei asserted that such statements only reinforce the Tehran government’s distrust of the Washington administration. Baqaei said the US leadership has never demonstrated sincerity in its agreements with the Iranian nation. According to Baqaei, although Tehran has strong reasons to be sceptical, Iran continues to pursue the diplomatic process with conviction and has signed an MoU aimed at ending the conflict. Baqaei stressed that the Iranian nation understands that threats to its country do not simply disappear with the signing of a single agreement. Tehran, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said, will take future steps vigilantly, reflecting on the experiences of the past 50 years, particularly developments in the last 18 months. Iran stated that remarks by US officials contradicting the content of the MoU do not help reduce the deep-rooted mistrust in Iranian society and serve as a reminder of previous non-compliance. He emphasised that the principle of commitment for commitment requires the fulfilment of obligations by each party and the avoidance of interpretations inconsistent with the text explicitly written in the agreement.
