Iran warns US against issuing statements contradictory to MoU

Tehran (ANTARA) - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Esmaeil Baqaei, has warned the United States against making statements and interpretations that contradict the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the termination of war.

In a post on the social media platform X on Wednesday night (24/6), Baqaei asserted that such statements only reinforce the Tehran government’s distrust of the Washington administration.

Baqaei stated that US leadership has never demonstrated sincerity in its agreements with the Iranian people.

According to Baqaei, although Tehran has strong reasons for scepticism, Iran continues to follow the diplomatic process with confidence and has signed the MoU aimed at ending the conflict.

Baqaei emphasised that the Iranian people understand that threats to their country do not simply vanish with the signing of a single agreement.

Tehran, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, will take future steps with vigilance, reflecting on the experiences of the past 50 years, particularly developments over the last 18 months.

Iran stated that remarks from US officials that conflict with the contents of the MoU do not help reduce the deep-seated distrust within Iranian society and serve as a reminder of previous non-compliance.

He emphasised that the principle of commitment to commitment requires each party to fulfil its obligations and avoid interpretations that are inconsistent with the text clearly written in the agreement.
