Iran Warns US Against Arbitrary Actions
The Iranian government has threatened to destroy infrastructure in the region if the United States targets the country’s infrastructure, according to a report by the Fars News Agency on Thursday (16/7).
Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that if the US destroys infrastructure in Iran, they will retaliate. “Destroy infrastructure, and we will destroy whatever infrastructure remains in the region,” Zolfaghari said.
He also warned that Tehran will under no circumstances allow the US, as a foreign power outside the region, to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz. “This is a red line for Iran that must not be crossed,” he added.
He said Iran’s response would not be an equivalent strike but a “superior strike”, adding that any retaliation would be “more severe, broader and more devastating than before”.
The statement comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides attacking each other despite a memorandum of understanding mediated by Pakistan aimed at ending the conflict and achieving a lasting peace agreement.
He also cautioned that the memorandum of understanding has now entered a critical phase.
As of Friday (2/7), there have been no direct indications that US intelligence possesses information on any specific assassination plot underlying the warning.
