Iran warns region will become 'hell' for US over Strait of Hormuz

Tehran - Iran warned in the early hours of Thursday local time that the Middle East region would become a “hell” for the United States amid rising tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement cited by the Mehr News Agency, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Air Force, Seyed Majid Mousavi, warned those seeking to threaten the “sacred Strait of Hormuz.” “If you make the Strait of Hormuz unsafe, we will turn this region into hell for you from all across Iran,” he said. Mousavi described the warning as a response to what he characterised as “American audacity” in the region. Previously, the IRGC stated it had struck 18 major United States military targets at the Ali Al Salem and Ahmad Al Jaber bases in Kuwait, along with the Sheikh Isa base in Bahrain. The developments come amid rapidly escalating tensions following United States attacks on southern Iranian territory and Tehran’s announcement closing the Strait of Hormuz to all transiting vessels.
