The Iranian government has warned European countries not to join the war against Iran. A spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that any action by European countries would be regarded as ‘an act of war’ and would be retaliated by attacking European cities.

This was announced in an official statement in Tehran on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

The statement followed after several European countries said they would take ‘defensive measures’ in response to Iran’s missile-launch capability.

In the statement, Tehran warned that such steps would be considered direct provocation, and that its retaliatory attacks would be expanded to target European cities and countries.

“It would be an act of war. Any action against Iran would be regarded as involvement with the aggressors. It would be considered an act of war against Iran,” said Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, quoted by detikNews from Press TV and Euronews, Wednesday, 4 March.

Bathe also lamented that European countries would be following suit in attacking Iran.

“Defensive means offensive, nonsense; are they trying to erase Iran’s capability and capacity to resist the aggressors,” he said at a press conference to the government news agency.

“It would be very disappointing if these countries sided with the aggressor; they have already done enough to oppose Iran,” Baghaei added.

This warning comes as several European countries seek to bolster their defenses, as Iran’s role threatens to extend beyond the Middle East and pose a threat to European security.

Earlier on Monday, the Iranian-made combat drone targeted the Akrotiri base of the UK Air Force on Cyprus, an EU member state. Officials believe the drone was launched from Lebanon, allegedly carried out by the militant group Hizbullah.

The attack prompted Britain to strengthen defenses at the military base on that Mediterranean island. British media reported that Prime Minister Keir Starmer was considering deploying warships to bolster the base against potential future attacks.

President Emmanuel Macron has also ordered a French aircraft carrier to move toward the Middle East.
