Iran Warns Against Foreign Military Activity in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is not a stage for foreign powers to display military might, warning against any military activity in the strategic waterway. “The Strait of Hormuz is not a stage for extra-regional powers to show off their military strength. As a responsible power and guarantor of security in the strait, Iran warns against any military activity in this sensitive waterway,” Gharibabadi stated on platform X. The statement was made alongside a post quoting a joint statement by the UK and France regarding the Strait of Hormuz. In that statement, the UK and France expressed readiness to deploy a broader Multinational Military Mission to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. “Those who create crises will be responsible for the consequences of their reckless actions. This is a serious warning,” he asserted. Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US, mediated by Pakistan, came into effect on 18 June after being signed electronically by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. The agreement serves as a framework to end the conflict and resolve outstanding issues between Iran and the US through negotiations. The understanding encompasses a cessation of hostilities, sanctions relief, the nuclear issue, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and broader regional security arrangements.
