Tehran’s retaliation for a possible US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities will not be limited, and the interests of the United States and its allies in the region will be on Iran’s target list, a military source familiar with the matter told RIA Novosti. On Tuesday (21/7), US President Donald Trump said that any location in Iran that Washington considers linked to Tehran’s nuclear programme would be subject to a major strike. “The response after any new attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities will not be limited. On the contrary, such an attack would escalate the conflict to such an extent that the US and any other party supporting it would bear significant costs,” the source said. If the US carries out its threats, all facilities representing US interests, bases, and military assets in the region, as well as the interests of its allies who engage in any hostile actions against Iran, will be on Tehran’s target list, the source added. On the night before 18 June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum to ensure the end of the conflict that began on 28 February. However, since 8 July, US forces have conducted a series of attacks against Iran. US Central Command claimed the strikes were in retaliation for Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces subsequently retaliated by attacking US bases in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump later stated that the ceasefire between the US and Iran was no longer in effect.
