Iran Vows Tit-for-Tat Retaliation Against US Strikes, Recalls Persian Gulf History
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that no attack or threat against Iran will go unanswered, following US strikes in the south of the country. Iran recalled the history of destruction faced by meddling ‘foreigners’ in the Persian Gulf.
‘Although defeated on the battlefield, the US has chosen to test our resolve,’ Araghchi said in a post on social media platform X on Wednesday (10/6/2026). ‘Our powerful armed forces will not leave any attack or threat unreciprocated,’ he added, warning the US to ‘leave our region if you want to be safe.’
‘The history of the Persian Gulf has many chapters on the bad fate of meddling foreign newcomers,’ he stated.
Earlier, Iranian media reported explosions and projectile attacks on Qeshm Island, Sirik, Minab and Jask in the southern province of Hormozgan, while air defences were activated in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Sirik. Iranian state television later said the reported wave of attacks had subsided and the situation had become ‘almost calm’.
The developments came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had begun launching ‘self-defence’ strikes against Iran in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter in a previous incident.
