Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s supreme commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Ali Abdollahi, stated that his country promises a fierce and sustained retaliation if the United States (US) and Israel attack their infrastructure.

Abdollahi said, as reported by the semi-official Fars news agency on Saturday (4/4), that the retaliation would target all US military assets in West Asia and Israeli infrastructure.

This was stated by Abdollahi ahead of the end of the 10-day deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, which expires on Monday (6/4).

“After suffering consecutive defeats, the aggressive and war-mongering US President (Donald Trump), in a desperate, nervous, unbalanced, and reckless move, has threatened (to target) Iran’s infrastructure and national assets,” he said.

Abdollahi continued that Iran’s armed forces would not hesitate “for a second” to defend the country’s rights and protect national assets, and “will put the aggressors in their place.”

In a post on his Truth Social social media account on Saturday (4/4), Trump wrote, “Remember when I gave Iran 10 days to REACH AN AGREEMENT or OPEN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ. Time is almost up – 48 hours before all hell breaks loose on them.”

On 21 March, Trump threatened to “attack and destroy” Iran’s power plants if the country failed to fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

However, two days later, he postponed the attack on the power plants for five days after holding “productive talks” with Tehran. Trump then extended the deadline again.

These developments occur amid rising regional tensions following joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran that began on 28 February, which were subsequently retaliated against by Iran and its regional allies with strikes on Israel and US interests across the Middle East.
