Iran-US Tensions Escalate; Alert Status 1 for Indonesian Citizens Remains in Effect
Jakarta — The Acting Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection (PWNI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that Alert Status 1 for Indonesian citizens in Iran remains in effect.
The alert, which has been in place since June 2025, was reiterated given the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran. “Alert Status 1 for Iran, which was established in June 2025, continues to be enforced and all contingency plans have been prepared, including various evacuation route options if needed,” Hamidah said during a press conference on Friday (27 February 2026).
Despite the Alert Status 1, the current situation in Iran is being monitored as stable, with both international and domestic airports operating normally, Hamidah noted. The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continues to monitor the situation and maintain intensive communication with Indonesian citizens, with no reports to date of Indonesians facing direct threats or dangerous situations.
According to reports from The New York Times, the US administration is reportedly considering military action against Iran. The first phase being considered includes an initial strike in the near future, with potential targets including the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), strategic nuclear sites, and ballistic missile programme facilities. This measure is designed to deliver shock value and maximum pressure to force Iran to comply with Washington’s diplomatic demands.
The Indonesian government remains vigilant, with the embassy maintaining all necessary preparations for citizen protection should the situation deteriorate.
