Istanbul (ANTARA) – Potential Iran-US peace deal could include an end to war on all fronts, according to Tasnim news agency on Sunday. In addition to halting Israeli attacks in Lebanon, the US is also said to commit to lifting oil sanctions on Iran during negotiations. If a deal is reached, the Strait of Hormuz will not fully return to pre-war status. Instead, the number of ships allowed to pass through the strategic waterway will be restored to pre-war levels within 30 days, according to Tasnim. Iran, the news agency said, stressed the enforcement of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz through various means, with details to be announced later. Meanwhile, Iran insists on the release of at least some of its frozen assets, with the potential deal also including a 60-day negotiation window on Tehran’s nuclear programme. Tehran also called for the lifting of US blockades on Iranian ports, stating that no changes to Strait of Hormuz arrangements would occur if the blockade remains in place. Any changes to navigation and transit through the strait will depend on the implementation of other US commitments in the memorandum of understanding, according to the report. US President Donald Trump said on Saturday (23 May) that the deal with Iran to end the war is ‘largely negotiated’ and awaiting finalisation. The breakthrough came after Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran, his second in recent weeks. The ceasefire in the US-Iran conflict, which began on 28 February, was initially mediated by Pakistan on 8 April.
