Iran–US–Israel Latest: Tehran Intensifies as 3 Indonesian Nationals Missing, Conflict Widens
The US-Israel war with Iran continues. Many new developments have occurred. Here are the latest developments in the Middle East conflict on Sunday (8/3). The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said they had launched missiles toward Israeli cities, Tel Aviv and Beersheva, as well as air bases in Jordan. AFP reporters heard explosions over Tel Aviv after the military identified fresh missiles from Iran. Israeli strikes on Lebanon have killed 394 people in the past week, including 83 children and 42 women, according to Lebanon’s health minister. He said nine rescue workers were among the dead. He condemned attacks on medical teams and ambulances. More than 100 Iranian nationals, including several diplomats, were evacuated from Beirut last night by Russian aircraft, a Lebanese official told AFP. This occurred after Lebanon on Thursday banned all activities of the IRGC, a key backer of the militant group Hezbollah. Iran’s clerical body responsible for selecting the next supreme leader has agreed on a candidate, but the name has not yet been announced, according to members. Iranian officials have rejected US President Donald Trump’s demands to have a say in selecting the successor. The Israeli military vowed to target any successor and anyone attempting to appoint a successor. Fuel distribution in the capital Tehran was temporarily halted following the US-Israel attacks on those depots there, an official said. A large fire broke out after attacks on five facilities in and around Tehran, causing a smoky haze across the city as morning arrived, AFP reported. Explosions occurred in Yazd province in central Iran on Sunday, state media said. It was not yet clear what was affected, but IRNA, the state news agency, said the explosion occurred on the outskirts of Yazd. Earlier explosions were reported elsewhere in the country, including Tehran and Isfahan province in the centre. Lebanon said an Israeli strike on a hotel in Beirut killed four people. The Israeli military said it had carried out a targeted strike in Beirut aimed at a commander from Iran’s IRGC’s external operations wing, the Quds Force. In southern Lebanon, where Israel is fighting the Iran-backed Hezbollah, the Health Ministry said eight people were killed in attacks across more than 20 towns and villages. Three Indonesian crew members are missing after a UAE-flagged tugboat was hit by an explosion and sank in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said. Of seven crew, one survivor is receiving treatment for burns in Oman, and search efforts continue for the three missing. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain reported new attacks. In Kuwait, two border guards were killed while on duty, the interior ministry said. The military said fuel tanks at the international airport were targeted by drone attack. Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry reported intercepting 15 drones, including an attempted attack on the diplomatic district of Riyadh. Bahrain said three people were injured by falling missile debris and a desalination plant was damaged. The UAE said its air defences detected 17 ballistic missiles on Sunday, destroying 16, while one fell into the sea. The IRGC said its forces could wage intensive war for six months, with a spokesman saying more advanced missiles would be used in the coming days. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country would be obliged to respond to every attack or invasion attempt by a neighbouring country. “Responding does not mean we have a dispute with that country or wish to harm its people. We will respond because it is necessary,” he said in a statement on state television. The day before, Pezeshkian apologised to neighbouring countries hosting US military bases for attacks in their territories. US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for a deadly attack on an Iranian primary school that officials say killed at least 150 people. “We think it was Iran. Because they are very inaccurate, as you know, with their ammunition,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. A New York Times investigation found that US forces were most likely responsible.
