Iran-US-Israel Conflict: PBNU Instructs Nahdliyin to Recite Qunut Nazilah at Every Prayer
The board of directors of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has instructed all levels and members of NU to reactivate the recitation of Qunut Nazilah during every obligatory prayer. This instruction was issued following escalation of conflict in the Middle East region.
The letter, numbered 51/PB.01/A.II.08.47/99/03/2026 dated 11 Ramadhan 1447 H or 1 March 2026 CE, was addressed to NU Regional Boards throughout Indonesia, NU Branch Boards, Special Branch Boards, pesantren caretakers within the NU Religious Educators Association, and mosque and prayer hall administrators within NU circles.
In the letter, PBNU conveyed that this instruction represents a response to concerning global developments. All NU members are asked to revive the implementation of Qunut Nazilah according to guidelines attached in the letter.
“To all members of Nahdlatul Ulama to reactivate the implementation of Qunut Nazilah. The Qunut Nazilah prayer should be recited in the final unit of every obligatory prayer, including Friday prayer,” quoted from the official letter on Monday (2 March 2026).
Furthermore, PBNU also requested that this prayer not be preceded by the regular qunut prayer normally recited during Fajr prayer. Specifically in Fajr prayer, Qunut Nazilah is recited after the Fajr qunut prayer.
The instruction was electronically signed by PBNU Supreme Chairman KH Miftachul Akhyar, General Secretary KH Akhmad Said Asrori, General Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, and Secretary General Saifullah Yusuf.
Through this collective prayer initiative, Indonesian Muslims, particularly NU members, are expected to beseech Allah’s assistance and protection amid increasingly tense conflict situations, whilst simultaneously reinforcing solidarity and concern for war victims.
The following is the Qunut Nazilah recitation released by PBNU:
O Allah, curse the disbelievers who obstruct from Your path, who deny Your messengers, and who fight against Your allies.
O Allah, intensify Your punishment upon them, and inflict upon them Your torment and suffering.
O Allah, divide their unity. O Allah, scatter their gatherings. O Allah, disrupt their assemblies. O Allah, shake their foundations (make them unstable), and send down upon them Your punishment that You do not withhold from sinful people.
May Allah bestow blessings upon our leader Muhammad, and upon his family and companions, and may peace be abundantly upon them.
