Iran-US Exchange Fire in Strait of Hormuz, Trump Threatens New Attack if No Agreement Reached
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN – Iran’s armed forces launched a missile attack on United States (US) troops to retaliate against the US attack on an Iranian-flagged tanker, according to Iran’s national television report on Thursday (7/5/2026), citing military sources. Meanwhile, on Wednesday (6/5/2026), the US Central Command stated that its forces had disabled an Iranian-flagged tanker near the Gulf of Oman. However, the Iranian report did not specify whether the two incidents were related. After facing fire from Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz and sustaining damage, the US ships retreated, the report stated, though it did not detail when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, on Thursday as well, explosions were reported in western Tehran, with the Mehr news agency confirming that air defence systems were operating in the Iranian capital. The US also reportedly launched attacks on Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas City, according to Fox News reports citing senior US military officials. A few hours after the exchange of fire, Press TV reported on Friday that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s coastal cities had returned to normal.
