Iran-US Ceasefire Cracks, Israel Continues Attacks, What is Happening?
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which has only been in place for a few days, is beginning to show serious cracks. While Washington and Tehran both claim victory, the reality on the ground reveals the opposite: the conflict has not truly stopped and even has the potential to widen.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his conversation with President Donald Trump, welcomed the ceasefire as an important opportunity towards peace. However, he also warned that the momentum of these two weeks is very fragile and could collapse if not managed carefully.
On paper, the ceasefire appears promising. Iran has even proposed a 10-point plan that includes stopping aggression, recognising the right to uranium enrichment, and lifting sanctions. However, behind that diplomatic framework, tensions are continuing to rise.
Diplomacy Not Yet in Sync
The main problem is not just the content of the agreement, but the differing perceptions among the parties. A senior US official described Iran’s proposal as not fully aligned with what Washington had agreed.
This difference in interpretation is an early signal that diplomacy is proceeding on a foundation that is not yet solid. Even before further negotiations begin, mutual trust has already eroded, as reported by TRT World.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has openly questioned America’s commitment. He stated that the basis of the agreement has been violated and deemed further talks “unreasonable”.
Three issues raised by Tehran are quite serious: the ongoing attacks in Lebanon, violations of Iranian airspace by drones, and the rejection of Iran’s right to uranium enrichment.
If true, this is not merely a technical violation, but an indication that the ceasefire has not fully become a mutual agreement, but remains merely a forced understanding.
