Iran: US and Israeli Attacks Kill 555 People, 200 of Them Primary School Children

JAKARTA — Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, disclosed that more than 555 people died as a result of attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

Boroujerdi stated that the attacks struck various civilian locations in Iran, including hospitals, schools, and other public facilities, resulting in significant civilian casualties.

“In this attack, more than 555 civilian casualties have been reported to date, with the majority of them being children and women,” Boroujerdi said when met at the Iranian Embassy’s residence on Jalan Madiun, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

According to Boroujerdi, the US and Israel showed disrespect for the holy month of Ramadan and those observing the fast. However, he stated that the attacks did not undermine diplomatic efforts and negotiations.

“Once again it has been proven that precisely when we were at the negotiating table, they launched attacks against Iran,” he said. “This can be confirmed by the Foreign Minister of Oman, a neutral mediator who has stated that negotiations had reached a clarifying point,” he added.

He characterised the attacks as open aggression against Iran. Referencing Article 51 of the UN Charter, he stressed that Iran has the right to defend itself and provide a lawful response to the attacks.

According to him, Iran exercised this right by attacking several US military bases that were identified as the source of the assault.
