Iran-US Agreement to be Ratified by UN Security Council

The final agreement between Iran and the United States will be ratified through a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported, citing a draft memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington. Previously, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States had been completed and was scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday, 19 June. “The final agreement will be ratified through a UN Security Council resolution,” Mehr wrote, quoting the contents of the draft memorandum. Based on the draft, the United States also commits not to interfere in Iran’s domestic affairs and to respect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In addition, the draft stipulates that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will only take place within 30 days after the memorandum of understanding is signed by both parties.
