TEHRAN — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched its latest naval fast attack craft. The vessel, unveiled at a ceremony in Enghelab Square, Tehran, has been named ‘27 Rajab’.

According to Iran’s Fars news agency, the ‘27 Rajab’ can reach speeds of 100 knots (185 km/h), making it one of the fastest in its class. Beyond its speed, the warship is equipped with a missile launch system capable of firing long-range cruise missiles up to 700 kilometres. This long-range missile system is described as a symbol of Iran’s advanced maritime military capabilities.

The ‘27 Rajab’ is a fast attack craft, officially introduced at the end of May 2026.

The vessel has drawn international attention due to its high-tech design. It is believed to strengthen the Islamic Republic’s maritime dominance, particularly in strategic areas such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Featuring a trimaran hull design for high stability during extreme manoeuvres, it is claimed to be able to navigate waves up to three metres high.

According to Times of India, the IRGC Navy operates separately from Iran’s conventional navy and is primarily responsible for security operations in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the regular navy focuses on larger warships and submarines, with the IRGC having built its reputation around fast attack crafts, coastal missile systems, and unconventional maritime tactics.
