Iran: Two Days of US Strikes Kill 14, Wound 78
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s Ministry of Health stated that American attacks on five provinces of the country over the past two days have killed at least 14 people and wounded 78 others.
Hossein Kermanpour, Head of the Public Relations and Information Centre at Iran’s Ministry of Health, said the United States launched attacks on five Iranian provinces on Wednesday (9 July) and Thursday (10 July).
“The United States targeted five provinces in Iran with attacks on 8 and 9 July,” Kermanpour wrote on his X account on Thursday.
According to him, the attacks have so far resulted in 14 deaths and 78 injuries.
The Ministry of Health said 47 of the wounded remain hospitalised, whilst the others have been allowed to return home after receiving medical treatment.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, quoting the Deputy Governor of Khuzestan Province for Security Affairs, Valiollah Hayati, reported three people killed in attacks near the city of Ahvaz in south-western Iran.
The latest casualty figures emerged amid renewed escalation between the United States and Iran after a fragile ceasefire, agreed last month, was declared over.
The rise in tensions began after the United States accused Iran of attacking three merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The accusation prompted Washington to launch a wave of attacks on Iranian military targets along the country’s southern coast.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation targeted more than 170 military sites over two days, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone infrastructure, naval capabilities, and facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to CENTCOM, the attacks were intended to prevent further attacks on international shipping.
In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks said to be aimed at American military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Iran and the United States had previously reached a memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan on 17 June, to end the military conflict and pave the way towards a long-term peace agreement.
However, on Wednesday (9 July), US President Donald Trump declared that the memorandum had “ended”, effectively terminating the agreement and triggering a new phase of military confrontation.
