Iran: Total US Economic War Will Backfire

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has asserted that the ‘Economic D-Day’ operation campaign announced by United States President Donald Trump against Tehran will end in failure. Araghchi assessed that the move will instead deepen the Iranian people’s hostility towards Washington.

In a statement on social media platform X on Thursday (20/8), Araghchi called the term ‘Economic D-Day’ merely an attempt to divert attention from the internal crisis facing the United States. He highlighted the problem of US debt reaching a record high as well as the surge in interest costs burdening the country’s economy.

‘Continuing a policy that has already failed will only bring about defeat and greater enmity from the Iranian people,’ Araghchi said in response to the threat of economic isolation from the White House.

Furthermore, Araghchi accused the US actions of being a form of ‘economic terrorism’. According to him, Washington’s aggressive policy not only targets Iran but also threatens the stability of the global economy and the sovereignty of various countries around the world.

Tehran’s strong reaction came after Donald Trump on Wednesday (19/8) announced an economic operation claimed to be the most devastating in history. Trump described the campaign as economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale against Iran.

Under the plan, Washington will seek to sever all financial and trade routes that support Tehran. Trump also issued a stern warning to other countries not to provide an economic ‘lifeline’ to Iran.

Trump stressed that financial institutions, companies, and government bodies of any country that continue to cooperate with Iran will face severe economic consequences from the US. He also urged international allies to join the effort to isolate Tehran completely.
