Tehran (ANTARA) — The Iranian government will convert a girls’ school bombed in Minab, southern Iran, into a memorial monument for victims of US-Israeli aggression, stated Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Ali Darabi on Thursday, 12 March.

The school was targeted on the first day of the joint US-Israeli Operation Epic Fury.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that at least 171 female students were killed. The United Nations has called for accountability for the deadly attack.

The New York Times subsequently reported that the school was struck by a US Tomahawk missile.

“The complex will become a ‘Memorial Museum of Martyred Students’ to preserve their memory,” said the minister, as cited by Iran’s government information portal.

Previously, on 28 February, the United States and Israel launched a brutal assault on targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing significant damage and killing numerous civilians, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran subsequently retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

The United States and Israel initially claimed the “preventive” strikes were necessary to counter perceived threats from Iran’s nuclear programme, but quickly clarified that their objective is to seek a change of government in Iran.
