Iran to regard any participation in US economic operation as act of war
A senior Iranian security official on Sunday (23/8) warned that his country will regard any country’s participation in or support for anti-Iran economic operations launched by the United States as an act of war.
In a social media post, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei said: “If the economic war continues, not a single drop of oil will be exported, whether through the Strait of Hormuz or from anywhere else in the Persian Gulf. Iran will consider the involvement or support of any country in the US economic war against the Iranian people as an act of war.”
Rezaei’s statement was made in response to recent comments by US President Donald Trump.
In a post on Wednesday (19/8) on Truth Social, Trump announced the most devastating economic operation ever carried out against any country providing vital assistance to Iran.
“This will be Economic War and Isolation on an unprecedented scale,” Trump said, describing the move as “ECONOMIC D-DAY.”
On 18 June, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war in the region on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Under the MoU, both sides were scheduled to hold negotiations within a 60-day period, which ended on 17 August, to reach a final agreement. However, the fate of the negotiations remains unclear following an escalation in tensions between the two countries over the past month.
