Iran to Close Strait of Hormuz, Accuses US of Breaking Promises

Tehran - Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz to shipping in response to the United States’ violation of a peace memorandum and the continuation of Israeli attacks in Lebanon, according to an Iranian military statement on Saturday (20/6). The Iranian military assessed that the US has violated the peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) by failing to implement the first clause of the agreement, which includes a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. “Given the blatant violation of the US promise and the failure to implement the first clause of the memorandum of understanding to end the war, and in response to the continued ceasefire violations by Israel in southern Lebanon,” said the Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, as quoted by Iran’s national TV station, IRIB. “The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is hereby announced,” said the Iranian armed forces headquarters. Khatam Al-Anbiya stressed that if Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon, Iran will take additional steps to compel it to fulfil its obligations under the peace agreement.
