Iran Threatens to Strike British Bases if Used by US for Attacks
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any British military base used by the United States (US) to launch attacks against Iranian targets would be a ‘legitimate target’.
The IRGC accused the British authorities of playing a major role in US and Israeli military operations.
In its latest statement, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Friday (24/7/2026), the IRGC said the US had recently used B-1 bomber aircraft flying from RAF Fairford air base in Britain, after warships operating in the Indian Ocean ran out of cruise missile supplies.
‘Any base used for aggression against Iranian territory is a legitimate target for us,’ the IRGC declared in its statement on Thursday (23/7) local time.
In its statement, the IRGC also warned Britain not to ‘further worsen its track record’. It accused London of being the ‘chief architect of instability’ in the Middle East region, for playing one of the largest roles in the recent US-Israeli attacks against Iran.
Iran continues to launch attacks against US military facilities in Gulf countries in retaliation for Washington’s latest wave of strikes, carried out over 13 consecutive nights, against targets in Tehran.
In its statement, the IRGC also accused the US of attempting to exploit calls for a return to negotiations in order to buy time and restore its military capabilities before launching further attacks against Iran. The IRGC stressed that Tehran would not allow Washington to take advantage of what it called a ‘deceptive ceasefire’.
Britain Ready to Defend Its Bases Following Iran’s Threats
In response to Iran’s latest warning, the British government affirmed that its Armed Forces stand ready to protect the country from any form of attack.
‘Our Armed Forces are ready to safeguard Britain’s security from any type of attack, whether occurring within our own territory or originating from abroad. Britain is on standby 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to defend itself,’ a British government spokesperson declared, as reported by Reuters.
‘This includes the deployment of a layered approach to air and missile defence, supported by Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force assets equipped with a range of advanced capabilities, as well as cooperation with our NATO allies,’ the spokesperson said.
Iran’s warning came after Britain’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, last week reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to the existing agreement permitting the US to use British military bases in efforts towards ‘collective self-defence’ in the region.
