Iran Threatens Retaliation Against US Over Attack on Darkhovin Nuclear Plant

Istanbul (ANTARA) - The Iranian government has threatened to take ‘appropriate’ measures in response to an American attack on a nuclear power plant under construction in Khuzestan province. ‘The US attack on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant, which is still under construction, is a dangerous assault on Iran’s peaceful infrastructure,’ Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said in a post on X on Sunday. The US bears full responsibility for the consequences of rising insecurity and instability, he added. ‘Iran strongly condemns this aggression and will take appropriate steps to defend its national interests and security,’ Gharibabadi stressed. The development comes amid escalating regional tensions, with the US continuing to launch strikes on Iran, which has retaliated by attacking military facilities and bases in neighbouring countries used by the American military. The tit-for-tat attacks have persisted despite both sides signing a peace understanding, mediated by Pakistan in June, to end hostilities and work towards a permanent peace agreement.
