Iran Threatens Retaliation Against US Over Attack on Darkhovin Nuclear Plant

The Iranian government has threatened to take “appropriate steps” in response to the United States’ attack on a nuclear power plant still under construction in Khuzestan Province.

“The US attack on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant, which is still in the construction phase, constitutes a dangerous attack on Iran’s peaceful infrastructure,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi in a post on the platform X on Sunday (19 July).

He added that the United States bears full responsibility for the consequences of rising insecurity and instability.

“Iran strongly condemns this aggression and will take appropriate steps to defend its national interests and security,” Gharibabadi asserted.

The development comes amid escalating tensions in the region, where the US continues to launch attacks on Iran, which are reciprocated by Iran striking facilities and military bases in several neighbouring countries used by the US military.

The mutual attacks between the two countries continue despite their having signed an understanding on peace, brokered by Pakistan in June, to end hostilities and work towards a permanent peace agreement.
